is that the Tesla app? I'm looking at a Model Y, so noob question! I want something like this for my chevy bolt!
What place is this?? Where is it?
Doesn't the cold temperature damage the car?
Of course not.
The sensor is sitting directly on snow, and your wondering why the car is reading warmer?
Yeah, you got me. But hey, at least I know how radiant heat/cooling and air temp works.
*you're
thing is when you drive the car, the car will get much colder than when the car is sitting idle
Of course.
we would need a comparison with 2020 model 3
Grans Julebrus X, good choice 👌👍😃
Beasty!
Came here from Beastyqt yt ;d
You should bog the car in snow before going to sleep. This way you have a very good thermal isolation for the whole battery. It will only be exposed to around 0°C instead of -26°C this way. That would safe a lot of energy otherwise needed to keep the battery at temperature. Just don't forget to bring a shovel and snow-chains for the un-bogging the next morning :) Next-Level: The Tesla-Igloo: bog the car AND burry it under snow for maximum comfort and energy efficiency :)
Electronics give off heat, the sensors being heated is a stretch.
Include the results in the google sheeeet 😀 How big a difference compare to MC Hammer/Model 3 without heat pump?
This Technik in a good Transporter and I buy on for my next Motorhome !
thats my urine mmmmmmmmmm nice and warm
Its getting late?! Do you mean its getting early?!
Heat pumps dont actually pump heat at 30 below.Prove me wrong.Think of an air conditioner turned around that is a "heat pump"Bjorn does not consider the 100 watts or so that his body produces.
@Bjørn Nyland I checked wiki ,says air to air heat pumps become inneffective at-18 celsius
Tesla's heat pump works down to -30°C. Trust me. I heard the heat pump all night.
Nice one, I like this ''shit'' :)) common foreigner of #scandinavia I get to understand from you how common we are foreigners of this land :))
I have noticed that my Model Y stays much warmer than my ICE cars with the climate control set at the same temperature. Most cars have a very thin steel floor pan whereas Model Y has a nice warm battery under my feet...
I wonder what small fan could do to help? like, one that plugs into a "cigarette lighter". Do you think blowing some air from the front to the back would help your cold foot well problem?
Could you do this in a Polestar 2 at this temperature? Would be intresting to see the difference consumption wise :)
Where can I find those Starcraft II vids you're watching?
@Bjørn Nyland thanks
seworld.info
I think the sensors on the outside may just be a little warmer because they draw a little bit of current even when not in use
You didn't say a word about the most important thing: the range! A before and after on that is the most essential issue. What good is it camping in a car if you can't make it back to a charging station next morning, but impressive to see how the Model 3 fared nonetheless.
Watch the other videos in my channel, dude.
This is why I want a Tesla as my next car. Living in the Canadian mountains this would be a perfect work horse. Awesome video.
If it's that insulated, how do you breath? The lack of oxygen must have done something crazy to your decision making process.
HVAC was on auto.
It’s 3am, but I can not stop watching this
BRO ITS ONLY -26!!!
this makes me really want an electric car
*Bjorn what a fantastic* experimental science video !
The temp will always be slightly colder at ground level where you have your thermometer.
4:30 Watching Starcraft in the car! Living the dream!!
Loved the timelapse
In Soviet Russia we used to sleep in -34 degrees using snow as the pillow
11:25 It makes that your external sensor is reading a colder temperature because cold air sinks, which makes the ground (snow) colder than the air slightly above it at night. In other words, it's reading more of the "ground temperature" rather than the "air temperature." So hence, the Tesla's sensor reading a warmer temperature is likely because it is placed above ground (and probably shielded from the wind/snow by the car frame). Weather stations that provide you your local weather observation usually measures temperature in a shaded and raised area to control for such discrepancies. Neither sensors are wrong though (unless one is truly faulty), so hopefully my explanation helps explain the differences you noticed in your experiment.
I think those sensors are not actively heated, but just powered...
Starcraft II yes + BeastyQTY
Which you did this without the window insulation so we can see what would happen if you needed to sleep in the car overnight without any preparations in case of a breakdown or undriveable roads
impressive.
I'm still trying to get over an asian looking guy named Bjorn...
@Bjørn Nyland now you just need a texas accent! Oh, and as for the parking sensors, they are high-power ultrasonic transducers. I doubt they are directly heated, just heated passively from the large volume of inaudible sound they are producing.
Never heard of the word "integration" before?
Regards from Athens Greece...
This dudes car is better than my bed...
LOL...no death matches for a charge station there like in Oslo . So many Teslas but the government didn't provision enough charge stations. I recon I would take the temp down to 17 degrees if I was camping in a tesla in that kind of cold...that's the perfect sleeping temp
19:17 getting that Borat vibe
Omg, you're watching some Starcraft 2
Glad to see a fellow beastyqt viewer!
are you watching starcraft? :D
What infrared camera are you using?
Flir one
Night shot timelapse was epic!!!
i like beasty as well
I think those sensors are not actively heated, but just powered...
if im gonna win a jackpot im buying tesla
at that temp every electronic is heated...
would be helpful if you told what battery percentage you started with and what it was when you finished in the morning
ok now a see that tonight i will sleep in my freezer.
YEAH THATS MY URINE!
Thats my urin 😂😂😂
What's the range on a full battery in a weather like this?
10:02 gooood morning nightcity
Also my car is covered in little ice crystals by the morning when t drops below -25 here
My fingers stick to my car handle at minus 26, how come?
Beastyqt
You can expect your heat radar map from a random app on a galaxy s7 to be even close to accurate
It's not some "random" app. It's Flir one. Google it.
I don't think, sensors are heated, they just seem to be warmer due to different construction/material and components. One have to be careful with the interpretation of thermal cameras. Sometimes parts are just warmer due to different sunlight absorbtion coefficients.
It would be interesting, whats the effect of the window insulation in relation to energy consumption, did you ever analyzed it ?
But why???
To measure the efficiency of the heat pump in extreme cold.
Exhaust pipe puts off a lot of heat.
would be helpful if you told what battery percentage you started with and what it was when you finished in the morning
It was literally shown in this video...
"Was ONLY -7 °C"…... Im in Portugal with 0 and Im freezing 🤣
I don't know Bjørn Nyland, you seem like a really nice guy - But perhaps you've gotten a bit too detached (read lost touch) from your audience. I need something different one in a while than copies of previous videos over and over :( Also, you never seem to engage with anyone on your primary platform ... WTH?
Wow, you totally missed the point in this video. It was to test Tesla's new heat pump and octovalve.
Maybe the difference in temperatures between the car and the thermometer can be causes by the thermo meter being on the cold ground and the car being warmer than the surroundings
awesome video! at least I know not to worry if I get kidnapped in a telsa
@sokin jon real women don't hang their boobs out
Real men watch Starcraft 2.
Nice video 👍 Keep on keeping on 😁
taking picture of urine???
So it can heat itself for one or two days like that.
This madman drinking a coke at 4am like sugar isn't a thing
Double glass has air in the between. So it will not freeze very easilly. Kind of like windows in your house.
Ok, well my experiense comes from S-class Mercedes that had/has double glass windows. It had very small air gap between glasses and those windows didn't almost freeze at all.
I don't think so.
Where did you get window shades?
Video description.
What was the battery level at 10am at wake up?
I showed it in the video.
Elon Musk, itself!! Congratulations
If that was fast charging... i don't want to know how a slow charge looks like :))
You don't understand. Slow charging is when you are staying home for 10+ hours. And then it doesn't matter how long it takes.
The Temperature difference from car and the aftermarket thermometer is because the sensor from the car is mostely in the outside mirrors, and your warm car radiate the heat around. Thats why some Thermometer from your home outside on the wall have the same difference. The Correct Temperature is some foot steps away from your home or your car.
Yòooooo whatsssup
@Bjørn Nyland
Video description.
@aola wili yoo whatsup
hey where did you get those window shades?
LoL instantly recognized Beasty stream...
@beastyqt
Great work! I am very curious to know what the power consumption will be if you don't use the window shade. I know it will be higher but the question is how much higher. I hope you repeat the experiment without the window shade at similar cold temperature, just for the sake of science. Bravo!
Real men watch Starcraft 2.
Interesting to me that the “camp” mode isn’t blue in color to indicate activation like the other modes.
-26度有比台灣溼冷嗎?當然沒有,台灣的負八度濕冷冷多了🧊❄️
Delta T of 45°C for 1.9 kW. Roughly equivalent to my sauna cabin but in reverse...
Love squeezing snow sound under my shoes ☃️❄️🌨💨
Camping in a tesla in cold weather holy shit I wanna do that!
Didn’t know what to expect, but hey. This was some good shit for sure!
-26 and no fog comming from the mouth .yeah right
Nice Star Craft 2 videos haha
Amazing. 2kw/h? at -25ºc? thats soo good. Nice work sir.
*2 kW
Bjorn, how much left of the battery? Please upvote if you also want answer for this question
It's in the video. I don't remember.
hey where did you get those window shades?
Video description
Just need a toilet and you're set. Perhaps Tesla will offer the Dystopian model with waste relief function.
i would install insulation for the back where feet are
4:30 Watching Starcraft in the car! Living the dream!!
I though that batteries die at low temperatures
You learn something new today.
