  • Two phenomena that have nothing to do with one another. There are millions of chemicals in nature, one or another is bound to make you feel good while having nothing to do with "evolving" along with you so you can compete for food or reproduce. That same chemical probably does other things, like repelling mosquitoes.

  • I had a cat that lived 21 year. When my cat was around 19 years old, and having some tummy troubles, I was told, by my vet, that cat nip could help her. So, daily, I gave her a good pinch of cat nip to eat...and it did help keep her food from coming back up. Her name was Ashley, and she passed away in 2005. So I do know there is some real medical benefits to catnip.

    StormyPeakStormyPeak9 dagar sedan
    • Indoor cats need fiber, if they're not getting the feathers and fur of critters to clear out their gut. We'd grow cat grass and ours was good with that. It doesn't have to be just catnip.

      M water_moonM water_moon3 dagar sedan
    • @Julie Barnette My aunt's cat (indoor only) was older than me when it passed away, and I was over 21. Our kitty who was found at a dumpster as a sick kitten, and a runt (never went over 8 lbs. despite food constantly available) lived for about 18 (she was straight up SCARED of the outdoors, if we left the door open she'd sit in the door way and *SNIFFF* hard but any startle and she'd dash inside and since we have coyotes in the area, that was a good thing.)

      M water_moonM water_moon3 dagar sedan
    • @Julie Barnette :) I think the oldest cat on record lived to be 38! I, also knew a cat, named Jack, that lived to be 23, he belonged to my brother. Interestingly...both Jack and my cat Ashley, were 'indoor/outdoor' cats. I do believe there are healthy benefits in that...as the cats are more active outside...both mentally and physically...and if nothing kills them...they can actually live longer than cats kept inside and bored their whole lives. I live in a mountain valley in Idaho, and I know the risks for a cat being outside...but I let her have her freedom when she wanted it... I had a pet door. Even with the cat I have now, (her name is Song) I let her out sometimes but I worry for her while she's out there...and I can only hope my dogs will keep things like coyotes, foxes, hawks, eagles, and owls from messing with her, as they hang out together in the yard.
